Environmental downloads and support from SaferWorking.com

Environmental issues and aspects play a key part towards SaferWorking. For example, providing employees with the appropriate working conditions and environment plays a significant part in mitigation and reducing exposure to hazards/risks.

In this section, we provide a series of articles, links and documents that you can access or download for free. We have kept the categories very specific so that you can quickly navigate and select.  To access the items, please register....

Environmental Audits Questionnaire

If you are about to conduct an environmental audit then this auditing questionnaire is one typically used to gather information about a facility/site. Once the questionnaire is completed, the auditors can probe deeper into specific aspects such as permits, wastewater management etc. Generally used by Consultants and called a "Pre-Audit Questionnaire", it can be used regularly to update status, track and monitor progress. This questionnaire focuses on details that can be deployed immediately.

  Green House Gas (GHG)

Calculating Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Equivalents

Carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2 equivalent) is a measure used to compare the emissions from various greenhouse gases based upon their global warming potentials (GWP). The CO2 equivalent for a greenhouse gas is derived by multiplying the mass of the gas by its associated GWP. For example, the GWP for methane is 21 and this means the emissions of one million (metric) tonnes of methane is equivalent to emissions of 21 million metric tons of carbon dioxide. This document provides guidance on Global Warming Potentials, Molecular Weights of Greenhouse Gases and instructions for conversion to CO2-equivalent Basis.

European Union Emission Trading Scheme (EU ETS)

A very good website for updates, an overveiw and guidance. The scheme is based on Directive 2003/87/EC, which entered into force on 25 October 2003. In January 2005 the European Union Greenhouse Gas Emission Trading Scheme (EU ETS) commenced operation as the largest multi-country, multi-sector Greenhouse Gas emission trading scheme world-wide. On Friday 7 December 2007, the Commission adopted the decision on amendments to the National Allocation Plan of Slovakia for 2008-2012. Following earlier decisions on amendments notified in 2006 by Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg and Sweden, the decision on the Slovak amendment constitutes the finalisation of the Commission's assessment of amendments. The legal framework foresees that any amendments notified after the end of 2006 other than those explicitly required in Commission decisions on national allocation plans are inadmissible.

Green House Gas emission calculation

Emissions from the Production of Nitric Acid - This guideline is intended to facilitate corporate level and plant-level measurement and reporting of greenhouse gas direct emissions resulting from the production of nitric acid (HNO3). It is a step-by-step approach used to cover every phase of the calculation process from data gathering to reporting. This sectoral guideline covers process related N2O (nitrous oxide) emissions from the production of nitric acid. However, this guideline does not cover a) direct emissions from the combustion of fossil fuel occurring during the production of nitric acid and b) indirect emissions from the purchase of energy (electricity or steam) used for nitric acid production. These GHG emissions are covered by the cross-sectoral guideline on stationary combustion.

Halocarbon Inventory Spreadsheet

Halocarbons, such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and bromofluorocarbons (halons), are carbon-based compounds that may contain hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine and/or bromine. These substances contribute to ozone depletion and/or climate change when released into the atmosphere.

  Pollution Prevention

Pollution Prevention [P2] (15 Slides)

Pollution Prevention (P2) is defined by the Federal Government as "the use of processes, practices, materials, products or energy that avoid or minimize the creation of pollutants and waste, and reduce overall risk to human health and the environment". This presentation covers an overview on implementation, developing a program, typical P2 programme, establishing goals, assigning responsibilities, reporting, measuring and monitoring progress and maintaining progress.
